There some issues you can have with drivers,
No drivers - you may be able to use your Windows drivers. There can be some problems with these drivers, I believe they don't always support WPA.
No firmware - sometimes your hardware need firmware that you may need to get out of a window driver install. This could be done via a couple different methods. Sometimes you need to locate a The firmware for the wireless in my laptop are in Ubuntu via System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers .
