Ubuntu 8.04 on ASUS eee
Issue with shutting down the machine, this is a known issue and they are working on patch.

There was more than one machine with this issue. What I found to work was the script from this website (it is in the universe repository for Ubuntu) http://www.albertomilone.com/index.html
Then you will proably want to install
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
which is a tool to control the compiz features. After you install you can run it from the command line with 'ccsm'
Pretty fun! Keep in mind the little brush button will restore the default setting. can be hand to undo something that isn't working the way you want it to.

Old G3 Mac && Ubuntu
The G3 is not longer a supported architecture for Ubuntu, just the G5. So as of now there is no 8.04 release. This user was able to find a 7.10 cd.
In addition Ubuntu/Linux/BIOS does not like partition larger than 8GB. (I believe this means you will need to boot off a partition that is smaller than 8GB, but once you are booted you can use partitions smaller than that.
